Le jardin du Crouzet
" Make Yourself at Home "
Such a privileged place …

Our farm is located half a mile from the village of Cendrieux where the houses are set around a circular walkway that surrounds the fortified church, a listed building.

Near the village square, a bar, a restaurant, a small grocery store, and the Post Office form a typical Perigord-style combination.

On the West side of the village, you can visit the “Chateau de la Pommerie” that opened in 1999. There, the descendants of Napoleon Bonaparte’s family show a legacy of 500 collectibles, paintings, sculptures and furniture representative of the era of the emperor.

“Les Cendriales” is a great cultural moment each year in June with a variety of fun activities: theatre, concerts, short films, art exhibitions, literary mornings and cabaret.

The local grocery store will supply for your most basic needs, but you can head to Vergt (6 miles) or Le Bugue (10 miles) for more extensive shopping.

At the farm, Paul, He will be happy to tell you about his arduous passion for organic gardening: he will take the time to show you around the property and the crops, and share with you his experience in organic farming and ecological building. He is also very much invested in the remodeling of the lodges. Geneviève will provide attentive listening to any of your needs and will advise you about interesting visits and activities available in the area. Geneviève is also a great guide if you are interested in identifying birds and wild flowers .

If you feel so inspired, you are welcome to participate in the gardening: sow, weed, plant, or pick and gather to prepare for the weekly farmer’s market. To thank you, we will offer you to pick fresh vegetables and fruits from our garden for your own use.

In Le Crouzet, you won’t find the usual luxurious clichés of Perigord - no truffles, no foie gras, and no expensive wines. But you will find a bottle of our homemade apple juice, our fresh deeply-colored egg yolks, aromatic plants, and all year-round fruits and vegetables from the garden: like asparagus in the spring, salads and ratatouilles in the summer, figs and nuts in the fall or pumpkin and cabbage in the winter.

However, Le Jardin du Crouzet is a privileged place to take the time to live. Stroll around the pond between skinny and twisted poplar trees and willows, check out the world upside down in the mirror of the surface of the water, while the drops of dew stretch out concentric circles, sleep under the stars lulled by the rustling leaves of a willow. A crafty grandfather has built for us, with the help of his 4 grandsons, an enchanting and magical observatory in the fork of a willow so you can take advantage of the early morning hours to listen to the birds wake up, and the dark nights to hear the frogs and the nightingales wish you a good evening.

You will also be able to gather flowers and leaves to make a bouquet of wild flowers, take time to prepare a hearty soup with vegetables from the gardens, put together a flowery salad or barbecue with selected herbs (a vertical BBQ device is available), or bake a delicious fruit pie for all to share.

On rainy days, our library offers a wide variety of alternative or social books, tourist or nature guides, board games and hours of classical music.
